Director of Children's Ministry

Dayton Korean United Methodist Church is a multi-cultural congregation committed to its children. We are seeking an equally committed, English speaking person to lead this essential ministry for our children. Dayton Korean UMC expects the Children’s Ministry Director to serve 15-20 hours per week. This time will be spent on three goals.

1)       Engage children on Sundays in a welcoming, worshipful, Christian, and educational environment.
2)      Teach children about God through special hands on activities throughout the year (VBS, Outreach, etc.). 
3)      Maintain Positive, Clear, and Direct communication with children, parents, and congregation. (Website, Newsletters, etc.)

Children’s Ministry Director

Main Goal:

To teach and nurture the children of Dayton Korean United Methodist Church in God’s love so that together, we would be transformed into the image of Christ.

Key Result Area: Sunday Mornings
Supporting Goal: Engage children on Sundays in a welcoming, worshipful, Christian, and educational environment.
Performance Standards: You’ll know you’ve done a good job when…OR This will have been satisfactorily performed when:

  1. Worship
    1. Supervise or lead worship in praise, advice, and prayer. This includes preparing and presenting, or arranging for sermons.
  2. Sunday School
    1. Recruiting, training, and supervising teachers
    2. Order, evaluate, and choose curriculum
  3. Fellowship
    1. Encourage unity and friendly communication.
    2. Welcome new comers.
    3. Uphold a standard of quality in terms of cleanliness, order, and interpersonal interactions.

    Supporting Goal: Teach children about God through hands on activity.

  1. VBS
    1. Order materials
    2. Recruit necessary volunteers
    3. Supervise the entire week
  2. Special Events
    1. Organize and Implement appropriate activities for special holidays such as Fall Harvest, Christmas, and Easter.
    2. Plan programs as necessary to compliment adult activities at church in order to keep children engaged.
  3. Outreach
    1. Implement outreach programs such as visiting Senior Citizens, working with St. Paul UMC, participating in Crop Walk, and engaging in the Horace Mann Elementary School Partnership in order to encourage community service and social awareness.

  1. Attendance
    1. Keep track of children’s attendance
    2. Follow up with those who are absent.
  2. Communication
    1. Regarding progress, ideas, and possible problems, communicate regularly with:
      1. Senior Pastor
      2. Parents
      3. Emerging Generation Leadership Team
      4. The rest of the DK congregation
    2. Maintain the Children’s Webpage as needed
    3. You may maintain communication through newsletters, church announcements, meetings, and/or the Website.
    4. Attend PTA meetings

 
Dayton Korean UMC expects the Children’s Ministry Director to serve a minimum of 15 hours to a maximum of 20 hours per week in order to meet a breadth of these ministry areas. For this, the church will pay $1,000 per month.
